Sayo Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Sayo app (“Sayo”, “the app”) collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. Sayo is provided by COVELLA PK (PRIVATE) LIMITED (“we”, “us”).
- You do not need an account. Your profile, lessons and progress are stored on your device.
- When you use the AI tutor, your messages and a few profile details (the name you entered, your level, learning goals and native language) are sent to our server and to AI providers to generate replies.
- The app shows ads and uses analytics and attribution tools (Google AdMob and its partner ad networks, Google Firebase, Adjust and Meta), which use your device’s advertising ID.
- Speech recognition is performed by your device’s speech service. We do not record or store your voice.
- Sayo is not directed to children under 13.
1. Information we collect
Information you enter
- Profile details you choose during setup: a first name or nickname, your English level, learning goals and native language. These are stored on your device.
- Messages you type or speak to the AI tutor, in free chat, role-play and mock interviews.
- Feedback you choose to write, for example after rating the app or when telling us why you are uninstalling it (the first 100 characters are kept).
- Reports you send about an AI reply, including the reason you selected and the reply you reported.
Information stored only on your device
Lesson progress, study streaks and study time, vocabulary review items, your chat history and your settings are stored locally on your device. We do not receive them, except for the parts of a conversation sent to generate an AI reply (see section 2). If Android backup is turned on for your Google account, Android may include this app data in your device backup, under Google’s terms.
Information collected automatically
- Device identifiers: the Android advertising ID, a Firebase installation ID, and identifiers created by the SDKs listed in section 4.
- Usage and diagnostic information: app events (such as opening the app, finishing a lesson, sending a chat message, viewing or clicking an ad), app version, device model, operating system version, language, and approximate location derived from your IP address.
- App integrity information: to protect our AI server from abuse, the app uses Firebase App Check with Google Play Integrity, which checks that requests come from a genuine copy of Sayo on a genuine device.
We do not ask for your email address, phone number, contacts, photos or precise location.
2. The AI tutor
When you chat with the AI tutor, the app sends the following to our server, which is hosted on Cloudflare:
- your current message and recent messages in the same conversation;
- instructions for the tutor that include the name you entered, your level, learning goals and native language;
- your Firebase installation ID, used only to count how many AI messages you have used today;
- an App Check token (see section 1).
Our server forwards the conversation to an AI model provider to generate a reply. We currently use OpenAI and, as a backup, Google (Gemini). Under our arrangement with OpenAI, OpenAI may use the content of conversations to develop and improve its models, under OpenAI’s own policies. For this reason, please do not share sensitive personal information (for example health, financial or identity details, or information about other people) in your conversations.
Our server does not store the content of your conversations. It stores a daily counter (your installation ID, the date and the number of messages used) to apply the daily message limit. Server logs contain error codes, not conversation content.
AI replies are generated automatically and may be inaccurate or inappropriate. You can report a reply from within the chat.
3. Microphone and speech
Sayo asks for microphone permission only for speaking practice, pronunciation feedback and voice input to the AI tutor. You can use the app without granting it.
When you speak, the app passes the microphone to your device’s built-in speech recognition service (on most Android devices, provided by Google) and receives back only the recognized text. Depending on your device and settings, that service may process audio on its own servers under its provider’s privacy policy. Sayo itself does not record, store or upload audio. The recognized text is used for pronunciation feedback on your device and, in AI conversations, is sent as a message as described in section 2.
Text-to-speech (the app reading English aloud) uses your device’s text-to-speech engine.
4. Ads, analytics and attribution
Sayo is free and supported by advertising. We use the following third-party services, each of which collects information directly from the app under its own privacy policy:
| Service | What it does | Information it uses |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob and Google’s User Messaging Platform | Shows ads, including rewarded ads you choose to watch for extra AI messages; asks for consent where required by law | Advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, ad interactions |
| Ad networks that serve ads through AdMob mediation: Meta Audience Network, Liftoff (Vungle) and Pangle | Compete to show the ads in the app and measure their delivery | Advertising ID, IP address (approximate location), device and app information, ad interactions, diagnostics |
| Google Firebase (Analytics, Remote Config, Installations, App Check) | Measures how the app is used and how ads perform; delivers app settings; protects our server | Firebase installation ID, advertising ID, app events, device and app information, approximate location from IP address |
| Adjust | Attributes installs to ad campaigns and measures ad revenue | Advertising ID, IP address, install referrer, device and app information, app events |
| Meta (Facebook SDK, App Events) | Measures installs and app events for our advertising on Meta platforms | Advertising ID, device and app information, app events |
| Google Play (In-App Review, Play Integrity) | Lets you rate the app without leaving it; checks app integrity | Handled by Google Play under Google’s policies |
The Adjust and Meta SDKs start automatically when the app opens and may send install and event data, including the advertising ID, before any consent form is shown. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, ads are shown according to the choices you make in the consent form, which you can change later in Settings → Ad Preferences in the app.

5. How we use information
- To provide the app: lessons, pronunciation feedback, AI conversations and study reminders.
- To personalize AI replies to your name, level, goals and native language.
- To apply daily limits on AI messages and protect our server from abuse.
- To show ads and measure their performance.
- To understand how the app is used, fix problems and improve features.
- To review feedback and reports about AI replies and improve safety.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Some sharing with advertising and attribution partners described in section 4 may be considered “selling” or “sharing” for targeted advertising under certain laws; see section 8 for how to opt out.
6. Who we share information with
- Service providers that run parts of the app for us: Cloudflare (server hosting), OpenAI and Google (AI replies), Google Firebase (analytics, settings, app integrity).
- Advertising and measurement partners: Google AdMob, Adjust and Meta, as described in section 4.
- Legal reasons: when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users, us or others.
- Business transfers: if the app or our company is merged, acquired or sold, information may transfer to the new owner under this policy.
7. How long we keep information
- On your device: until you delete it by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling the app.
- Daily message counters on our server: kept only as long as needed to apply daily limits.
- Analytics and feedback in Firebase: kept according to the data retention setting of our Firebase project, then deleted.
- Third-party services (Google, Adjust, Meta, OpenAI): kept according to their own policies.
8. Your choices and rights
- Microphone: turn it off at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Sayo → Permissions.
- Notifications: turn the daily study reminder off in the app (Settings → Daily study reminder) or in Android settings.
- Advertising ID: reset or delete it in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads (or Google → Ads). Ads will then be less personalized.
- Ad consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland): change your choices in the app under Settings → Ad Preferences.
- Delete data on your device: Android Settings → Apps → Sayo → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall the app.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe or state privacy laws in the United States), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent, and to opt out of targeted advertising. To make a request, email us at tayyabwaseem348@gmail.com. Because Sayo has no accounts, we may ask for information that helps us find the data related to your device. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of our service (providing lessons and AI replies), our legitimate interests (security, analytics and improving the app), and your consent where required (for example personalized ads).
9. Children
Sayo is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security and international transfers
Information sent between the app and our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect information.
Our service providers and partners may process information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, these transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and change the effective date above. If the changes are significant, we may also let you know in the app.
